Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Your Wound Care Questions Answered
1. What is wound care?
Wound care is the specialized assessment, treatment, and ongoing management of acute and chronic wounds to promote healing, prevent infection, and reduce complications. Our clinic provides evidence-based treatment plans tailored to each patient’s individual needs.
2. What types of wounds do you treat?
We treat a wide variety of wounds, including:
* Diabetic foot ulcers
* Pressure injuries (bedsores)
* Venous and arterial leg ulcers
* Surgical wounds
* Traumatic wounds
* Burns
* Infected wounds
* Non-healing or chronic wounds
If you are unsure whether your wound requires specialized care, we encourage you to schedule an assessment.
3. When should I see a wound care specialist?
You should seek medical attention if:
* Your wound has not improved within 2 weeks.
* Your wound has not healed within 4 weeks.
* You notice increasing redness, swelling, warmth, or pain.
* There is pus, foul-smelling drainage, or fever.
* You have diabetes or poor circulation and develop any foot wound.
* The wound appears deep or exposes bone, tendon, or muscle.
Early treatment often leads to faster healing and fewer complications.
4. Do I need a referral to book an appointment?
No. Patients are welcome to book an appointment directly. However, we also work closely with general practitioners, specialists, hospitals, and other healthcare providers who may refer patients for specialized wound management.
5. What should I bring to my first appointment?
Please bring:
* A list of your current medications
* Any recent medical reports or laboratory results related to your condition
* Your referral letter (if applicable)
* A list of any allergies
* Comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the wound
6. What happens during my first visit?
Your first appointment includes a comprehensive wound assessment. We will review your medical history, examine your wound, identify factors affecting healing, discuss your treatment options, and develop a personalized care plan. Your dressing will also be changed during the visit.
7. How often will I need dressing changes?
The frequency depends on your type of wound, the amount of drainage, the dressing being used, and how well the wound is healing. Some wounds require daily care, while others may only need dressing changes once or twice per week. Your treatment plan will be individualized.
8. Do you provide home visits?
Where appropriate, home visits may be available for patients who are unable to travel to the clinic. Please contact us to discuss your individual circumstances and availability.
9. Will my wound heal completely?
Many wounds heal very well with timely and appropriate treatment. However, healing depends on several factors including your overall health, blood circulation, diabetes control, nutrition, infection, smoking status, and your commitment to following the treatment plan. Our goal is to give every wound the best possible opportunity to heal.
10. How can I book an appointment?
Appointments can be booked conveniently through this website or by contacting our clinic directly. If you have an urgent concern, please let us know so we can advise you appropriately.
11. Why should I choose your wound care clinic?
Our clinic combines evidence-based wound care with compassionate, patient-centred treatment. We believe every patient deserves individualized care, thorough education, and a treatment plan designed to achieve the best possible healing outcome. We work closely with your healthcare team to address not only the wound itself but also the underlying factors affecting healing, empowering you to take an active role in your recovery.
Our Commitment to You
